This has nothing to do with the Bayou but it's hella funny. I'm working at home yesterday and out of the blue I get an IM from some username I don't recognize. It turns out to be a Nigerian 419 scammer (the guys who send out the spam asking you to help them get $50 million out of Nigeria) and I managed to keep him tied up for an hour.
I posted the chat log on my server at:

That's pretty sweet. I like how he had no idea whether or not he'd actually talked to you before or not... you had him completely flummoxed.

Re: OT: Fun with 419 Scammers
Sun, February 20, 2005 - 2:11 PMThanks. Of course later I thought of a bunch more stuff to say. I should have offered to mail him the coins if he *promised* to use the not-shiny coins first and only use the shiny ones in an emergency. And of course he would have to wire me money for postage first.

Re: OT: Fun with 419 Scammers
Sun, February 20, 2005 - 11:10 AMThis is hilarious. Can you guys beleive some people fall for these nigerian scammers?
Over a month ago, the tech columnist for the NY Times wrote a story of the woman that was interested in buying his house. He accepted her offer only to be asked to delay the closing date. The woman went on to explain how the wire transfer promised by her Nigerian "friend" was not credited yet to her account... -

Gnomes ROCK!
You friend is mega cool and should become our next president.
Or something like that.
;-P

Re: OT: Fun with 419 Scammers
Tue, September 20, 2005 - 5:35 PMThanks for the presidential vote, and the gnomes thank you too!
I actually got IM'd by this guy several more times, the last about a month or two ago. By this time I was bored with the game and pretty much spelled it out for him that I had been fucking with him from the beginning. Of course he said that he knew that (what else was he going to say?) and has never contacted me again.
It was fun while it lasted.
